In his role as owner, Christopher Mason provides leadership and vision for the Mason Warmington Group (MWG). With decades of law enforcement experience and training, Mason provides clients with trust, confidentiality, and superior investigative and consulting services. Prior to founding MWG, Mason served as the Colonel and Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, having been appointed by then Governor Baker in November of 2019. As Colonel, Mason oversaw the day-to-day operations of approximately 2,800 members of the MSP, including the Massachusetts State Police Crime Laboratory.
This role provided him with a unique insight into many of the issues and investigations faced by municipal, corporate, academic, and private entities. Before being appointed Colonel, Mason served as the Deputy Superintendent of the MSP and, prior to that, as a Lieutenant Colonel managing the Division of Investigative Services. There, he had responsibility for a wide range of investigative units within MSP, including those focused on cybercrime, organized crime, fraud, drug, and homicide investigations. Mason also served as the Unit Commander for the Cape and Islands State Police Detective Unit.
For nearly 17 years, Mason participated in and managed complex homicide and major crime investigations. Working on both new and cold cases, Mason was able to work closely with crime survivors and families to ensure justice and hold offenders accountable. Many of these cases proved to be difficult and high-profile, requiring both tenacity and investigative expertise. Mason has also served as the Director of the Commonwealth Fusion Center, which provides information sharing and outreach on a wide range of homeland security issues and works to coordinate counterterrorism efforts and investigations with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force.
Mason holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts and a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session #253. Mason has also attended the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government National Preparedness Leadership Initiative Program, the DEA Drug Unit Commanders Academy, and the F.B.I. National Executive Institute. Mason is a graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School's Fusion Center Leaders Program. Mason is an ATIXA-certified Civil Rights Investigator, Level 1.
Widely respected within the law enforcement field, Mason has held positions on various boards and has served on the Executive Board of the International Association of Police Chiefs, State and Provincial Division. Mason is also a member of the FBI National Academy Associates and the Association of Title IX Administrators.
